How to read a peptide COA
Short answer: a Certificate of Analysis (COA) is a lab report for one batch. Read it in this order: check that the batch code matches your vial, check the product and size, then read the results and the test date.
What is a Certificate of Analysis?
A COA is a document from a testing laboratory that reports results for a specific batch of a product. It tells you what was tested, when, and what was found.
What should I check first on a COA?
Check the batch code. It should match the batch code printed on your vial label exactly. A report for a different batch tells you nothing certain about your vial.
What are the main parts of a COA?
- Product name and size. These should match your label.
- Batch code. The link between the report and your vial.
- Testing lab and report number. Who issued the report and its reference number.
- Test date. When the testing was done.
- Purity. The share of the sample that is the intended peptide.
- Identity. Whether the material matched the expected peptide.
- Retest or expiry date. When present, the date to use the batch by or have it checked again.
How do I read the purity line?
The purity line is usually a percentage. A higher number means less other material in the sample. Our peptide purity guide explains what the difference between, for example, 99% and 80% means for research.
What does "COA per batch" mean?
It means every batch has its own report. Veridian posts a COA per batch for every product, so the report you read is for the batch in your hands, not an older one.
How do I find the COA for my Veridian vial?
- Find the batch code on the vial label.
- Open the COA lookup page and type the code exactly as printed.
- Check that the batch code, product and size on the report match your label. If they do not, contact us before you use that vial.
What are warning signs on a COA?
Be careful with a report that has no batch code, a batch code that does not match your vial, no test date, or no way to tell which lab issued it. Those make it hard to tie the report to what you received.
